The Author
What Does the
Bible
Really Say About Hell?
Randy Klassen was born
in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. With his family, he
attended a Mennonite Brethren Church where, after his
conversion, he was baptized. His commitment to Christ and
call to ministry came largely through contact with
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship while at University of
Manitoba. From there, he attended Fuller Theological
Seminary for two years.
Not being a citizen of
the United States and running short of money, he returned
to Winnipeg, where he was surprised by a call to serve as
interim pastor of Teien Covenant Church in Drayton, North
Dakota. After eighteen months there, he completed his
theological training at North Park Theological Seminary
in 1959.
During the next forty
years, Klassen served Covenant churches in Winnipeg,
Canada; Davis, California; Prairie Village, Kansas;
Valley Springs, California; and Chandler, Arizona. From
1977-81, he served as the Executive Secretary of
Evangelism for the Covenant Church.
At the end of this
term, he stepped out of official ministerial duties to
pursue what was to be an increasingly successful art
career. However, during this time, he continued to lead
home Bible studies. One Bible study in Valley Springs
grew into Good Samaritan Community Covenant Church, and
Randy was officially back into the ministry. He remained
there for eight years, until he was called to serve Hope
Covenant Church in Chandler, from which he retired in
1999.
At that point, Klassen
and his wife, Joyce, returned to their favorite region,
the Mother Lode area of northern California,
where they now live in the town of San Andreas. Randy
continues to do pulpit supply on Sundays, still does home
Bible studies, participates in a part-time care ministry
to other pastors, paints watercolors, walks his
Dalmatian, and yes, also likes to write.
