Duane Beachey

Duane Beachey is currently a pastor who has spent most of his life working to improve housing for low-income families in Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Texas, and in southeastern Kentucky. He lives with his wife Gloria in Isom, Kentucky, where, although he is an ordained Mennonite pastor, he is pastoring two small Presbyterian churches in Isom and Blackey, Kentucky.

Much of his life Beachey has worked across denominational lines with an interfaith housing organization in Oklahoma, and with an interfaith peace organization he helped form—Oklahoma Peace Strategies. Beachey then worked with Habitat for Humanity in Oklahoma and Texas. He served as pastor of the San Antonio Mennonite Church for eight years. Most recently he and his wife Gloria completed eight years of service with Mennonite Central Committee coordinating MCC’s work in Appalachia.

Beachey is author of Faith in a Nuclear Age (Herald Press, 1983). After growing up in Arthur, Illinois, Beachey attended college in Hesston, Kansas, and Goshen, Indiana. He attended one year at the Associated (now Anabaptist) Mennonite Biblical Seminary in 1973-74.

Duane and Gloria have two daughters, three grandsons, and a granddaughter.
his flies in the face of much of the church’s understanding of salvation shows how little Jesus is actually our guide for belief and practice.
